James Rees

Location: Durham, NC

While he has spent time teaching, coaching, and playing with children of all ages, James has been in his current role as a 4th grade teacher at a Quaker-based K-12 school for four years. The implications of NLR have spoken to him both in his work as a 4th grade teacher (What is it like to see through the eyes of a 9/10 year old? What natural capacities do they have and what nourishments bring about well-being?) and as a reflective young adult (How does knowing take place? What opportunity is available here for me to learn something about myself?). Though he enjoys teaching academic subjects, he gets the most meaning from exploring with his students how we can be together in friendships and community so that well-being can flourish for all. James is interested in the possibilities for transformation available for children, teachers, and caregivers in school settings.

In his spare time, you can find James playing soccer or a board game, sitting by the Eno River, or very slowly knitting a hat.
