Creative Applications of Trauma-Informed Practice
$400.00

Faculty: Josette Luvmour, PhD

Duration: 7 week course, once a week, 1.5 hours per class

Dates: June 13th – July 18th, 2025

Course Description

This seven-week intensive course introduces graduate-level learners to trauma-informed approaches that integrate creative arts methods to foster expression and integration. Rooted in contemporary trauma theory and neurobiology, the course explores how expressive modalities—such as visual art, movement, music, play, and narrative—can support healing, regulation, and meaning-making in therapeutic and supportive settings.

Through interactive Zoom sessions, creative journaling, and an applied final project, students gain practical tools for incorporating somatic, emotional, and relational processes into trauma-informed care. Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, cultural responsiveness, and the student’s own reflective and professional development.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Articulate key principles of trauma theory and explain how creative modalities can support regulation, expression, and integration in trauma recovery.

  • Demonstrate familiarity with multiple creative arts therapies, including their theoretical foundations, clinical applications, and cultural considerations.

  • Engage in reflective, creative journaling to explore personal responses and develop insight into the use of creativity in therapeutic work.

  • Design a trauma-informed treatment plan or professional application that integrates at least two creative modalities aligned with best practices.

  • Apply ethical and culturally responsive frameworks when considering the use of creative interventions in diverse practice settings.
